Grantham University, an online university dedicated to providing educational opportunities to working adults for nearly 60 years, announced that it has awarded $ 7,000.00 in scholarships through the Imagine America Foundation?s (IAF) Military Award Program. Connie Lucas, Erica Byrd, Jenifer Zitzke, John Meyer, Stephen Frison, Tywaren Johnson, and Woodrow Ishman each received a $ 1,000.00 scholarship to be applied to their tuition at Grantham University.
?We are pleased to award these scholarships to such a deserving group,? said Johanna Altland, director of communications and chair of Grantham University?s IAF Scholarship Committee. ?Each of these recipients has served or is serving in our nation?s armed forces, and it is an honor to give back to those who have given so much and to continue the University?s tradition of meeting the educational needs of service members and veterans.?
Each applicant was required to complete an essay on the topic, ?Why should you receive a Grantham University IAF Military Award Program scholarship?? While the responses were very different, the scholarship recipients all shared a common drive and motivation to complete their undergraduate or graduate degree.
Connie Lucas, who served in the U.S. Army for five years and has been working as a civilian in the Department of the Army for 21 years, is completing courses for a degree in Business Administration and working toward her Acquisition Certification simultaneously. Lucas is pursuing her degree for two reasons: personal satisfaction and career advancement.
Single mom, Erica Byrd, is in her first year of classes at Grantham University. She is pursuing a Master in Healthcare Administration. ?I am the first in my family to receive my bachelor?s degree and will be the first to receive a master?s degree,? said Byrd. Her ultimate goal is to work for the Department of Health and Hospitals.
